1.1 Understanding the Project

The objective of your Trabajo de Fin de Grado (TFG) is to demonstrate your ability to apply knowledge, analytical capabilities, and methodological skills acquired throughout your Physics studies. Choosing a topic aligned with your academic interests and career goals is essential. Reflect carefully on your personal strengths and the topics that genuinely excite you. Consider discussing preliminary ideas with faculty members or potential supervisors to refine your choice. Clearly define your research question and objectives to guide your project’s direction and scope.

1.2 Theoretical Preparation

Begin with an exhaustive literature review to establish a solid theoretical framework. This involves identifying key concepts, prior studies, and gaps your research will address. Utilize academic databases such as Google Scholar, JSTOR, and Scopus for comprehensive searches. Manage your literature systematically using reference tools such as Zotero, Mendeley, or BibTeX to facilitate easy citation management and bibliography creation. Summarize and critically evaluate relevant studies, noting significant findings, methodologies used, and limitations identified. This preparation ensures your research is informed by current scientific understanding and contributes meaningfully to existing knowledge.

1.3 Methodological Planning

Clearly outline your methodological approach, detailing whether it will involve experimental setups, computational modeling, theoretical calculations, or a combination. Develop a realistic and structured project timeline, setting clear milestones for each stage (literature review, experiments/simulations, data analysis, writing phases). Consistently maintain effective communication with your supervisor through regular meetings or updates, ensuring alignment and timely guidance. Anticipate potential obstacles and incorporate contingency plans into your timeline to accommodate unforeseen challenges.

1.4 Practical Work

Dedicate sufficient time to practical tasks, including reading scientific papers, writing initial drafts, conducting simulations (e.g., Python or R scripts for data analysis), laboratory experiments, or field observations. Document all activities meticulously, noting dates, methods, and results clearly. Regularly update a research journal or digital log to track your progress, problems encountered, and solutions implemented. This documentation will significantly streamline report writing and analysis. Regularly review your results with your supervisor to ensure accuracy and reliability. Ensure proper handling and storage of data, maintaining organized digital backups to prevent data loss.

1.5 Ethical Considerations

Ensure compliance with all ethical standards relevant to your research, particularly if it involves experimental subjects, sensitive data, or environmental considerations. Familiarize yourself with institutional ethics guidelines, obtaining necessary approvals and informed consents when applicable. Document clearly how ethical considerations have influenced your research design and practices.
