Tick marks outward, not into the plot, in the maps and the figures seed
I09 · an idea of the seed-place, on its way to the module.
The idea
Seen on the maps of the ESRF ID22 series (esrf-datuak-irene, 23 October 2026): the tick marks of the axes are drawn inside the frame, over the map; they should go outside. Not to be applied in that project for now; a reminder for the Plots module (and Publish, whose figures showed it).
Assessment
Inward ticks over a map cover data at the frame's edge and read as marks on the map; outward ticks are the convention of every map figure (and of matplotlib's defaults for images). In Publish the ticks are drawn by pgf.rs for F3's map and difference map; in Plots by the shared plot component (app/ui/plot.js, the tick rule). One rule for both: on a map, a surface or any filled plot, ticks point outward; on a line plot the kit's present choice stands unless Josu says otherwise.
Proposal
- Publish: F3 map and difference map, ticks outward (a flag of the drawing, one line per axis).
- Plots: the Map, Difference Map and Surface views, ticks outward in the shared component.
For Josu to decide
- Whether line plots (overlay, stack, projection, Rietveld) keep inward ticks or follow.
